Michael McAnelly, FAICP, serves as Executive Administrator of the American Planning Association Texas Chapter (APA Texas), the state’s leading professional organization for planners with more than 4,000 members. In this role, he guides continuing education, advocacy, legislative strategy, and professional development programs that shape planning practice across one of the nation’s fastest-growing and most diverse states. A Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners (FAICP), Mike brings more than three decades of leadership in urban planning, transportation, land development, and sustainability to his work strengthening the voice and capacity of Texas planners.
Before joining APA Texas, Mike held senior planning and management positions in both public and private sectors, where he advanced multimodal transportation plans, complete streets policies, sustainable development frameworks, and regional growth strategies. Widely respected for his ability to bridge policy, practice, and people, he is a frequent speaker and mentor on ethical planning, equitable mobility, and building resilient communities in the face of rapid urbanization. His steady, collaborative leadership continues to elevate APA Texas as an indispensable resource for creating livable, inclusive, and forward-thinking places throughout the Lone Star State.
