Kari Kuwamura

ActivateSA, a grassroots tactical planning initiative and think tank dedicated to creating a safer, more equitable, and resilient San Antonio through active transportation advocacy and design. A native San Antonian who lived .n Austin for part of her life, Kari holds a degree in Recreation Administration from Texas State University. She built her career around managing recreation and education programs—from adaptive cycling events with the Wounded Warrior Project to trail planning and outdoor education for the Lower Colorado River Authority—before returning home to direct active transportation infrastructure efforts in San Antonio. Under her leadership at ActivateSA, Kari has championed bike- and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, urged safety improvements following cycling fatalities, and advocated for visionary city planning that integrates affordable housing, transit equity, and walkable neighborhoods. Her community-focused approach and deep local ties inspire progress toward a connected, inclusive, Bicycle‑Friendly San Antonio for all.
