Retired Transportation Engineer, Experienced Trail Designer and Builder. Charlie Riou is a veteran mountain biker and passionate trail builder who has been a driving force behind the Austin Ridge Riders since the early 2000s. As former President and Trails Program Director, he oversaw the design, construction, and upkeep of numerous local trail systems—including Reveille Peak Ranch and the Juniper Ridge expansion at Pedernales Falls State Park—while also lending expertise on nature-informed rock work and sustainable trail stewardship.
Beyond trail design and maintenance, Charlie has been a key advocate for mountain biking in Central Texas, engaging with land managers and sponsoring educational initiatives for riders and builders to foster trail etiquette and collaboration among diverse user groups. Under his leadership, the Club increased volunteer events, negotiated with local officials, and advanced projects such as pump tracks, school-based bike infrastructure, and community input plans for parks like Bolm District Park.
Today, Charlie rides a minimalist fixed‑gear steel bike—reflecting his enduring love for simplicity—and remains a respected figure for anyone who appreciates the intersection of mountain biking, community building, and environmental care.
