Chris Bruntlett is Marketing & Communication Manager at the Dutch Cycling Embassy, the world-renowned public-private network that unites the Netherlands’ leading planners, engineers, policymakers, and businesses to export Dutch cycling expertise worldwide. A Canadian transplant who moved his family to Delft in 2019 after falling in love with Dutch bike culture, Chris is co-author of two acclaimed books: Building the Cycling City: The Dutch Blueprint for Urban Vitality (2018) and Curbing Traffic: The Human Case for Fewer Cars in Our Lives (2021), both co-written with Melissa Bruntlett and published by Island Press.
Before joining the Embassy, Chris spent a decade as a communications strategist and advocate in Vancouver, helping shift local narratives around livable streets and sustainable transport. Today he travels the globe delivering keynotes, workshops, and study tours that translate Dutch principles—traffic-calmed neighborhoods, protected infrastructure, integrated land-use and transport planning, and inclusive public engagement—into actionable strategies for cities on every continent. Passionate about showing that high cycling rates are not cultural destiny but the result of deliberate, replicable policy choices, Chris is one of the most recognizable voices demonstrating how any city can become a joyful, safe, and bike-friendly place for everyone.
