Tina Tran, J.D., is the South Region Vice President for AARP, overseeing advocacy, community engagement, and policy strategies across nine states and the District of Columbia, following an 11-year tenure as State Director for AARP Texas, where she championed the interests of the organization’s 2.3 million members and their families. Guided by AARP’s mission to empower people to choose how they live as they age, Tina drives a bold social impact agenda that includes advocating for livable communities, disaster preparedness, financial security, healthcare access, quality long-term care, and equitable transportation options—such as safe walking and biking infrastructure that supports aging in place and reduces isolation for older adults. During her time leading AARP Texas, she built coalitions at federal, state, and local levels, mobilized hundreds of volunteers for grassroots outreach, and earned the 2020 AARP National Achievement Award for her innovative leadership in advancing these priorities amid rapid population growth and natural disasters.
A Vietnamese immigrant and trailblazing advocate, Tina previously served as Legislative Director for Texas State Senator (now Harris County Commissioner) Rodney Ellis, where she managed policy on transportation, employment, criminal justice, and insurance, while directing the state’s largest legislative internship program for students of color, placing over 60 interns in Capitol roles during a single session. She holds a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, and a J.D. from Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University, and is a member of the Texas State Bar. Passionate about cultural understanding, equity, and servant leadership, Tina continues to shape resilient, inclusive policies that make communities stronger for all generations.
