Executive Director, Red Line Parkway Initiative
Tom Wald is the Executive Director and Founder of the Red Line Parkway Initiative, a visionary effort to transform the 32-mile Red Line corridor in Central Texas into a vibrant, multi-use trail fostering community connectivity and sustainable transportation. A lifelong advocate for bicycling and walking, Tom’s passion for active mobility stems from his childhood in Minneapolis, where he grew up enjoying the city’s extensive network of trails, sidewalks, and well-connected neighborhood streets. His early experiences with Minneapolis’s urban fabric inspired his commitment to creating accessible, pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly spaces in Austin and beyond. Tom’s leadership in mobility advocacy is reflected in his extensive involvement with numerous organizations. He currently serves on the boards of People United for Mobility Action, Austin Outside, and Walk Austin, and he was the first Executive Director of Bike Austin, where he championed policies and infrastructure to enhance cycling safety and accessibility. Additionally, as a Co-Founder of the UT Austin Orange Bike Project, Tom helped establish a program promoting sustainable transportation on campus. With many years of service on Austin’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Councils, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the city’s active transportation landscape, bringing his expertise and dedication to fostering inclusive, connected communities.
